/s/ is a great tool by

I had very good luck with the /s/ buddy for tongue placement. The /r/ was trickier to use on the first try and I haven't had time to get back to the training videos.

S worked the best; liked using with Bitsboard App by

I purchased all 5 and have used the /r/ and ""ch"" with a 6 year old client and the /s/ with a 7 year old client. The /s/ speech buddy has the made the difference in helping to correct an interdental placement of /s/. Although I had used coarticulation and other forms of feedback, the speech buddy was the tool that helped the client correct their placement. The /r/ speech buddy has not been as successful. The 6 year old has not yet produced a strong /r/ sound. As for the ""ch"", it was also very successful in assisting the client for tongue placement and the client achieved a very strong ""ch"" sound within a few demonstrations and use of the speech buddy. They are easy to use. The materials have clear illustrations as well as the videos which were sent. I have also downloaded the Bitsboard products which I love. I show those on my iPad so clients can practice their sounds

A "must have" for your speech tool box! by

I am a pediatric speech-language pathologist working in an outpatient hospital clinic. I have used speech buddies for at least a year now with great outcomes for teaching placement of articulation sounds. Some sounds, especially "r", are extremely difficult to show or describe correct oral motor placement for production and speech buddies give tactile input to show exactly where your tongue should be for each sound. It is not a "quick fix", but it is a very helpful addition to your bag of tricks as a speech pathologist.

Response was even better than expected by

We are just getting started with our Speech Buddies but so far the response has been even better than expected. My 5th grade students using the /r/ and /s/ speech buddies were able to produce standard sounds on nearly the first try! I have not tried the others yet but very pleased so far.

/r/ buddy has worked wonders by

The /r/ buddy has worked wonders for a kiddo who I had tried nearly everything I could think of. I am very pleased with that. I would however, like better instructions for the ch buddy.

    These really work by

These really work. I have only tried the Speech Buddies only with students who have not had success with other methods. At first, my students were reluctant to put the Buddies in their mouths. But with some reassuarnce, they were williing to try. Wiithin 2-3 trials with the Buddies, my students were experiencing success with sounds that had previously frustrated them (and me). These are clever devices. I will be ordering another set for my practice.

/r/ is always a struggle by

I love the ease of the tools. It's much easier for the students to feel where there tongue is instead of explaining it. The biggest struggle, however, is the /r/ tool. It takes a lot of practice for my studetns. I have only been using it for about a month and 50% of my students can correctly say that sound with the tool.

    Great for Tongue Placement by

These often assist with tongue placement; tongue thrusters may need a harder substance in the buddy because they can still thrust on the /s/

Pleased once I finally bought them by

I first heard of them and saw them at the ASHA Schools Conference in Long Beach. I could not stop thinking about them. I have sooo many kids with /s/ and /r/ difficulties and so many of them I can't seem to get them over that hurdle of consistent tongue positioning. I kept thinking that I wanted to get them but was stopped by the price. Many times I would look at your website and would go as far as filling out my cart to order but then would not follow through because I just didn't think I could afford it. Finally, some time afterwards, mostly out of frustration I went ahead and ordered the set of 5 personally. When I got them and tried them I was very pleased. They worked for many of the students, some they did not. I work at two schools and was pleased enough with them to use the little funds I had left at my school to order another, a single /r/. Since that order I now have a SLPA working with me and she tried them and LOVED them. So I had the school purchase the /r/ for her and most recently I personally bought an /s/ for her. When I show them to parents and teachers too, they are quite impressed. Cleaning can be a hassle (you know, one more thing to do in our already busy schedules). It would be nice to either has some kind of disposable cover or to have the tips removable so each child could have their own. I would use them even more and would buy tips for all my kids. In any case you have a very good product. I think they are great. My goal over the summer is to look more seriously at your website as I notice you have many helpful hints and even exercises, etc.

    Amazing! by

Used the /s/ and /sh/ to teach placement with a 9 year exhibiting severe lateralized productions. He achieved correct placement in one session, and by the second session, he was able to quickly move to word level productions without the Speech Buddy. After 10, 30 minute sessions with parent training involved, this student is consistently using correct productions in conversation. Amazing!

They have already become my buddies. We're inseparable! by

I was initially skeptical...and afraid to pull them out, thinking I'd be all confused about how to use them. But, they are so simple (brilliantly simple) and straightforward (brilliantly straightforward). I have a very apraxic kid and I had to admit I use the /l/ speech buddy to help my guy find all of his tongue tip-to-alveolar ridge sounds. Before, I might use my gloved finger and got chomped a couple of times. The /r/ speech buddy is so cool...a student learns the /r/ by uncoiling the strip with his/her tongue. I will be turning to these guys repeatedly for the rest of my speech therapy career. They have already become my buddies. We're inseparable!

Excellent tools for speech tool box by

I'm a speech language pathologist working with children in an outpatient clinic. I see children with a wide variety of speech disorders including apraxia of speech, articulation and phonological disorders, expressive and receptive language disorders, voice disorders, fluency disorders, and oral motor disorders. I recently tried Speech Buddies and I am so happy that I did! First, I think it's important to realize that nothing in speech therapy is an "immediate fix". The client will need training to help him/her benefit the most from using Speech Buddies. Every person is different and for some, this will work wonderfully and for others it won't work at all. With that being said, it's an amazing instrument for your speech tool box. It is the BEST tool I have used to give tactile representation of placement for speech production. It's also excellent for home practice and carry over. I have used the /s/ buddy the most and I've had tremendous success. It is so rewarding to see a child be successful and in turn, see his/her exceitment and confidence grow when they realize he/she CAN produce the targeted sound. Thank you Speech Buddies!

    Thank you! by

The students love how the tools are named after animals! The tactile feedback that the students' receive when using the Speech Buddies has made a remarkable difference. One of my students, who is very shy and has been self-conscious of his speech, was able to learn correct production of R sound and had a speaking part in a Reader's Theater production for parents! He did GREAT!!! Another student has learned how to say her name correctly! Imagine the joy she feels now that she does not have to be embarrassed when she tries to tell someone her name..that is HUGE! The Speech Buddies have helped to boost my students' self-confidence significantly with their improved speaking skills. I have two students who have "graduated" and three more students who are almost ready to graduate from speech after using the Speech Buddies!

Thank you for helping my children achieve clear speech! by

Thank you for helping my children achieve clear speech! The Speech Buddies have made a tremendous impact on their progress in speech therapy. The children were excited to use the Speech Buddies and could see an immediate improvement. The Speech Buddies helped the children easily locate where their tongue needed to be to produce the target sounds. This made it much easier than trying unsuccessfully to remember where they achieved the best sound previously. They were able to retain the positioning after a few repetitions with the Speech Buddies! The Speech Buddies have helped the children make much faster progress. It has also alleviated frustration that can come with unsuccessful trial and error. Thank you for helping my children succeed with their speech therapy!

    Highly Recommended by

I like the fact that there are finally devices (besides the flavored tongue blade, mirrors, straws, etc.) that can help elicit some of the most challenging of sounds (R, S, L, SH, CH).  In addition, these tools enable good placement and production while vocalizing meaningful sounds, syllables and words (unlike  oral-motor exercises which address strengthening and placement but not meaningful speech production). I would highly recommend Speech Buddies to speech therapists who want to add a new form of technology to their therapy repertoire. I would personally recommend this device to a parent who was working along with a speech therapist.

So Grateful for Your Tools by

I am working with an articulation client this quarter (/s, z/ and post-vocalic /r/) and I have been blown away by how much the /r/ speech buddy helped me with shaping and successive treatment!  All our first and second year grad students are jumping to use the buddies in their own session with their kids too.  We're giving them a try with typically-developing artic kiddos as well as some motor speech kiddos, and people have been loving them so far.  Granted, they're not for everyone (or sometimes it takes some initial treatment before they become functional and appropriate), but they are FANTASTIC tools for giving kids a clear, overt tactile plan for getting their tongue in the right place and motor pattern for making awesome sounds.  I just want you to know how appreciative and thankful I am for you guys sending them out for us to use.

Great for Treatment Resistant Patients by

I am a Speech Pathologist and have used Speech Buddies on new patients and treatment resistant patients, including those with articulation and phonological delays/disorders and dyspraxia and have seen great results. Several of my clients receiving accent reduction have also benefited significantly from using these tools. Preliminary evidence, as well as my own anecdotal evidence obtained using these tactile biofeedback tools, has done nothing other than begin to convince me of how effective Speech Buddies can be.

    Supporting the SLP Community by

Thanks much for supporting the SLP community and the parents working at home. Not everyone can afford private therapy each week; however, it’s great to at least consult sites like yours to supplement school services or periodic sessions with a private therapist who can guide you. I have lots of homeschool families who come in for guidance even if their child doesn’t qualify for public services. The school eligibility guidelines provide limited services to a small number of students; SLP’s in the school can’t possibly serve everyone who would benefit form services and this is where private consultations help. We are also much more likely to recommend speech buddies because school SLP’s have more limited budgets and don’t see many kids individually. Kids are self-conscious with the speech buddies if others are watching so it may be less effective in groups at schools.

    Great Results! by

I was introduced to Speech Buddies at the ASHA conference. As soon as I saw the research results from their study, I knew I had to have them! What a wonderful tool for tactile feedback it has been for teaching kids how to correct such things as lateral lisps, depalatization of sh for s (you can use the tools to help kids feel the difference), and the ch tool can be used to elicit velars k and g by pushing down the tongue. My school principal gave me a glowing review for my observation when he saw how helpful technology is in speech practice (ipad apps and Speech Buddies--great combo!) Definately has helped me to "graduate" more students this year! Highly recommend for all SLPs!!
