Karen is an active member of the American Speech and Hearing Association and has 8 years of experience in speech-language pathology working with patients and clients of all ages and varying degrees of speech and language deficits. Settings of experience include home health, pediatric outpatient, sub-acute rehabilitation, and skilled nursing facilities. She has experience working with children with Autism, Asperger’s, expressive and receptive language disorders, phonological awareness disorders, articulation deficits, non-verbal picture exchange communication systems, literacy and language delays, and social, emotional, pragmatics. Karen enjoys learning creative ways to improve behaviors within therapy sessions to ensure the clients she serves feel comfortable, hold attention and focus during structured and non-structured language tasks in order to improve a client’s ability to achieve positive outcomes and reach attainable goals. She works with individuals, parents, families, and social groups.
Karen grew up in Southeast Michigan, in a suburb of Detroit. She now lives in the Grand Rapids area and enjoys her time near Michigan’s lakeshores with her “fur baby”, friends, and family.
Speech and language therapy helps people with developmental speech and language delays, autism, genetic disorders, social language disorders, cerebral palsy, neurological disorders, and other medically related diagnoses.
