Finally, the 13th Biennial International Association of Special Education Conference is right around the corner. Educators and professionals from a variety of disciplines, including speech and language therapists<\/a>, will gather from around the world to share, inform, and exchange new ideas for improving special education on a global scale. This year the conference presenters and attendees will meet and enjoy some summer sun in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at the University of British Columbia from July 7 – 11, 2013. Here are all the details:<\/p>\n

What is IASE?<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to their website, the International Association of Special Education was founding in 1985 and is \u201can organization of professionals who are dedicated to improving the quality of life and service delivery for all individuals identified as having special needs.\u201d What makes this organization unique is the interdisciplinary involvement and connections between teachers, teacher\u00a0trainers, professors, speech clinicians,<\/a> psychologists, health care providers, social workers, counselors, family\u00a0 members <\/a>and those associated with related disciplines.<\/p>\n

Program Highlights:<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year the conference theme is, “The Bridge From Segregation To Inclusion <\/a>… A Long Journey.” Attendees will learn about inclusion and best practices in international education, network and see exhibitors including: the Leads Metropolitan University, Handwriting without Tears and the Professional Crisis Management Association.<\/p>\n

Keynote speakers include those with disabilities, parents of children with special needs, educators and professionals. Of note, speech pathologist Mary Jane Trunzo will speak on her career not only an SLP but as the founder an co-chair of the Phoenix Sister Cities Disabilities Awareness Committee (DAC).<\/p>\n

Special Events:<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s IASE conference is filled with special events for participants including film screenings special night at the Museum of Anthropology, children and young adult artwork, gala dinner, silent and live auctions, special awards, UBC Forum, exhibiting companies and many social and networking events.. Films this year include, Bag Of Tricks: Exploring The Magic Of Those With Disabilities <\/em>and Vectors of Autism<\/em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Logistics:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Housing and accommodations will be available at the University of British Columbia housing for on-site conference lodging while The Hyatt Regency Vancouver, located downtown on Burrard Street, will be the site of the Gala Dinner.\u00a0Holiday Inn Vancouver Centre on Broadway will provide off-site conference lodging.<\/p>\n

In 2011, 215 international delegates from thirty countries were joined by 130 Namibian teachers, administrators and policy makers for the IASE conference in Namibia.
