Speech-Language Pathologists who use Speech Buddies:
"In this era of serious budget constraints, it is rewarding to be able to offer something that can both produce better results and save money."
- Dixon Deutsch, Executive Director, New York Special Education Collaborative for Charter Schools
"I was introduced to Speech Buddies at the ASHA conference last year. As soon as I saw the research results from their study, I knew I had to have them! What a wonderful tool for tactile feedback it has been for teaching kids how to correct such things as lateral lisps, depalatization of sh for s (you can use the tools to help kids feel the difference), and the ch tool can be used to elicit velars k and g by pushing down the tongue. My school principal gave me a glowing review for my observation when he saw how helpful technology is in speech practice (ipad apps and Speech Buddies--great combo!) Definately has helped me to "graduate" more students this year! Highly recommend for all SLPs!!"
- J. Newell, Mechanicsburg, PA
"I purchased my "Speech Buddies" at ASHA in Philadelphia. When I returned home a began using the /r/ tool with a 17 year old girl I was working with in therapy. Barbara ( not her real name...but her name as well had several r's in it) had come to me because she was embarrassed to get up in front of the class and do a presentation because she had no /r/ sound. Her mother said, "We were used to the way she talked and always thought she would outgrow her difficulties." I was concerned that, due to her age, she would never be able to change her speech...or it would be very challenging for her to do so. Prior to purchasing the Speech Buddies she had made some good progress but it still wasn't quite right. I explained the process to her and we tried out the /r/ tool . I inserted it into her mouth and we tried it. "Oh My God!!" she exclaimed, "Now I get it!!!" She said, "I understood when you explained it to me before but now it makes so much more sense!" Barbara had only three more therapy sessions and she was done. I thank you for her...she is a lovely bright young women who now has the confidence to get up in front of her peers without fear of ridicule because of her speech."
- M. Gustafson, Winnipeg, MT, President of the Manitoba Speech & Hearing Association
"A 7 year old student excitedly entered a speech session to show me her latest discovery. She'd been working to better pronounce her friend "Rachel's" name. Containing all of her challenging sounds, the /r/, /ch/ and /l/, this student took out three of her Speech Buddy tools from the case and proceeded to put the /r/ tool in her mouth for the "ra" sound, then quickly shifted to the /ch/ tool for the "che" sound and ended with the /l/ tool for the last sound in Rachel's name! I'd never seen near simultaneous use of the tools for one word. While her method was a bit slow, she was amazingly accurate. The tools literally gave my student the tools she needed and fun while improving a very important word for her."
- Cathy Runnels, President of Accent on Speech, Silver Springs, MD, and Speech Buddies Provider
"Although we don't like to admit it as speech therapists, sometimes we throw our hands down in frustration and have to grab a coffee stirrer or a spoon to help physically guide a patient's tongue to the right spot to help show them where it needs to go. We've all used hodgepodge methods of trying to providing tactile feedback to train correct tongue placement for problem sounds.
I'm so happy that finally a solution exists to accomplish this task in a much more effective, consistent and professional way. Speech Buddies also enable me to apply this method to a much larger set of sounds including the R sound, one of the trickiest to teach."
- Pamela Ely, Director of The Ely Center, LLC, Newton, MA and Speech Buddies Provider
"I am a speech therapist with a private practice and I have six clients who were really struggling with their "R" sounds. They have all made tremendous progress very quickly using the "R" Speech Buddy. Their parents are thrilled and so am I!"
- D. Kuhl, S. Portland, ME
"I am a Speech Pathologist and have used Speech Buddies on new patients and treatment resistant patients, including those with articulation and phonological delays/disorders and dyspraxia and have seen great results. Several of my clients receiving accent reduction have also benefited significantly from using these tools. Preliminary evidence, as well as my own anecdotal evidence obtained using these tactile biofeedback tools, has done nothing other than begin to convince me of how effective Speech Buddies can be."
- Dr. Jessica Galgano, Owner of Open Lines Speech & Communication, New York, NY and Speech Buddies Provider
"The world of Speech pathology has access to limited practical, clinical technology. However, when I first learned about Speech Buddies, specifically designed tools for individual problem sounds that would be placed inside the mouth and teach the proper and consistent tongue placement that we all try to achieve, I was most intrigued.
The method of almost instant intra-oral tactile feedback that has been created is effective and works impressively well. It has quickly become clear to me that Speech Buddies do a great job of teaching children how to place their to accomplish proper sound production. In addition, parents are impressed and supportive when I am able to recommend a technological option for their child that I think will speed up their learning process. It is most reassuring to them, and adds to my credibility in the early days of establishing a therapeutic relationship, that I have a variety of methods, both conventional and cutting-edge that I can use for their child. As for the kids, they always love gadgets, games and anything "techy" - especially something that they can actually touch which helps them and allows them to see rapid positive results.
Speech Buddies provides effective tactile feedback where parents and children can rapidly hear and feel a difference. They motivate and encourage everyone involved in the Speech Pathology process, allowing for faster progress and easier carryover and generalization outside of the therapeutic environment. Speech Buddies are unique, effective tactile feedback tools that truly do what they are designed to accomplish. They help to correct problem sounds while encouraging and motivating in both a therapy and home setting. They work and are worthy of your interest."
